Hello! Thanks for visiting. My name is Derek (Del). Originally born in Scotland, I have lived in London for 23 years, attaining both Honours and Masters degrees in music. I’ve worked in the TV and Film industry since 2003 – both on camera and behind the scenes – and could be considered a near daily fixture on national TV, with well over 15,000 hours of live television presentation experience to my name. I have also hosted many prestigious live events, and have been an actor in several TV series and dramas. Read on to find out more.

From appearing as Hornigold’s Pirate Spokesman on the hit Top 5 Netflix series “The Lost Pirate Kingdom” (Netflix/ZDF), Co-Pilot “Jerry Smith” in the International TV docudrama “Air Crash Confidential Series 3” (WMR/ZDF/Discovery/Channel 9 Australia), weatherman ‘Joe Randall’ in the BBC 2 comedy series “Broken News” alongside Benedict Cumberbatch and Indira Varma, playing an FBI Informant in “The Real Story of The Infiltrator” (ITV Studios Global Entertainment/WMR 2019), to appearing briefly on the hit ITV drama “Quiz”, to working as a quiz and game-show host on terrestrial channels FIVE, ITV 1 and STV(ITV 1 Scotland) for NetPlayTV, Quizcall & The Great Big Quiz – I’ve had a wide range of experience, and even have an excellent knowledge of gemstone jewellery, which I put to use presenting on Freeview based TJC (The Jewellery Channel).
I also enjoy presenting live events, cover presenting the 2019 & 2022 Ideal Home Show at Olympia, London and presenting the 2018, 2019 and 2022 Ideal Home Show main-stage in Scotland at the SEC in Glasgow. I have been in conversation and hosted Q&A’s with Gloria Hunniford, Phil Spencer, Richard Arnold, Rosemary Shrager, Nick Knowles, Olly Smith, Gregg Wallace, The Style Sisters, David Domoney, Joe Swift, John Amabile, Kunle Barker, Amanda Lamb, The Skinny Jean Gardener and many more.
At Infosec 2019 (London Olympia) I presented an IT security segment for cybersecurity company Varonis, and fronted the original 2010 Miss Great Britain London heat at West End nightclub “MAYA”.
I also toured with the new Channel 4 Home strand sponsor Hillary’s Blinds “Hillary’s Experience Expo 2018” roadshow – presenting to thousands across the UK.
Having worked alongside Gloria Hunniford, Anthony Worrall Thompson and Linda Barker and appeared in the publications OK! Magazine, Daily Express and Daily Star as an anchor presenter for Richard Desmond’s Daily Express TV venture, I also spearheaded the International Emmy Award winning internet project We-Dig.TV; a revolutionary site which gives players at home the chance to participate and interact in Deal or No Deal, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Blockbuster and other top game-shows, interacting with footage of the original hosts.

It isn’t just presenting and acting that are my loves however, I am also an experienced composer and sound designer having written music for many UK and international television projects.
My company, Derek Gibbons NewMedia Ltd, has composed music for programming on Five, Five USA, Fiver, TJC, CNN, Zee TV India, UTV Ireland and more.
As a pianist and producer, I have written across a vast range of genres and also work as a professional audiovisual editor from our well equipped studio.

Del is a professional Sound Mixer / Editor (Full Adobe CC user), MSO and AV Technician who has worked in TV, Film and Live Events for 18 years.
Del is a trained Composer and Pianist with MA and BMus(Hons) degrees in Music Technology, 15 ABRSM piano/violin qualifications and certification as an Allen and Heath DLive Sound Engineer (2020).
